Medical Monitoring Networks Get Personal
I just read a wonderful article from Scientific American, Sep. 2009
Medical Monitoring Networks Get Personal
quote:
"[Bluetooth] really falls down when it comes to battery issues," says Nathaniel Sims, a physician at Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital and assistant professor of anesthesia at Harvard Medical School.
If all goes well, look for MBANs to fall into three categories in the near future—those used to monitor a patient's general health or "wellness," those measuring the health of the elderly, and those used to monitor patients with long-term medical conditions such as Parkinson's disease or epilepsy, says Paolo Bonato,

Healthcare sensors
Two Ideas for outpatient healthcare
1. Bluetooth headset for chewing problem detection, ISWPC 2008, Greece
2. In-bed accelerometer sensors for sleeping patterns identification,
Pervasive Health 2008, Finland (software now also available on i-Phone as
paid download)
instead of expensive medical equipment. But I do not have signal processing
background to make judgments.
